Ebony and her 7-month-old daughter, Heaven, are visiting Open M’s food pantry, a member hunger-relief program of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Ebony is a hard-working mom, who drives more than an hour every day to work in order to provide for her family.
Even with Ebony working full-time, she sometimes finds herself struggling to make ends meet. “I’m the main income provider,” said Ebony. “I have three boys under the age of 10, and my daughter to provide for. I’m working to show them how to be successful.”
Through out the month, Ebony finds herself making choices about buying diapers and baby food or paying necessary bills like her electric. Because of hunger-relief programs like Open M, Ebony doesn’t always have to make those difficult choices.
“I’m trying to better my life for my kids. I’m motivated to become self-sufficient, and this place helps me do that. Everyone here is so helpful and kind; I know when I need it they will be here.”
