The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is excited to invite community members to the 12th annual Selfless Elf 5k run/walk on Dec. 21. The race begins and ends at the Foodbank’s Main Campus in Akron.

This year’s race is 80s themed. Participants are encouraged to dress in leg warmers, tease their hair or even sport a funky mullet. Festive, holiday-themed costumes and running gear are also a great way for participants to show their support for the event.

Selfless Elf has become an annual family tradition for many and includes dance music pumping through the warehouse by DJ Nick Duvé and a fun photo opportunity so families can commemorate the event.

Participants will receive brightly colored elf socks and a race shirt. An awards ceremony will highlight the top overall male and female runners and competitive walkers, Most Dashing (best dressed) and Top VIP Elf (top fundraiser).

The race is one of the Foodbank’s signature events and is a celebration of the culmination of its Holiday Campaign. It’s a great way for the community to support individuals and families in the region struggling with hunger.

“We hope the community joins us for this totally tubular 80s-themed Selfless Elf 5k,” says Foodbank President and CEO Dan Flowers with a smile. “This race is such a fun way for our community to come together during this very special season to show their support for our neighbors experiencing hardships. You don’t have to be a runner – bring your kids and enjoy a brisk morning walk with your Foodbank family. We’d love to have you.”

A special thank you to NECA/IBEW Local 306, NJM Insurance and Shearer’s Snacks, title sponsors for the event.

Please note, dogs are no longer permitted at the event as the safety and wellbeing of the children and families in attendance are the top priority.

Visit selflesself.com for additional information or to register as a race participant. Onsite registration begins at the Foodbank at 6:30am on race day, and the race begins promptly at 8am.
