The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank will kick off its 28th annual Harvest for Hunger Campaign with a breakfast on Feb. 26, 2019 at the John S. Knight Center in downtown Akron. Community members interested in learning more about the Campaign and how they can get involved are encouraged to attend.
The breakfast brings together local organizations familiar with the Campaign, in addition to new businesses interested in rallying behind the cause of feeding people and fighting hunger.
Harvest for Hunger is the Foodbank’s largest fundraising campaign and helps support food distribution all year long. Support from the community is imperative to ensure families struggling with hunger have a place to turn during their time of need.
This year’s Campaign goal is to provide more than 5.3 million meals for the local community, including $1.32 million and 100,000 pounds of food, through the Foodbank’s hunger-relief network.
The Campaign is led by honorary co-chairs, Dr. Brian Harte, president of Cleveland Clinic Akron General and Robert Roland, managing partner of Day Ketterer. They will encourage community members and organizations to join this year’s Campaign at the kick-off breakfast.
“Cleveland Clinic Akron General is pleased to once again support the Harvest for Hunger Campaign, and I’m excited to serve as honorary campaign co-chair for the second straight year,” said Harte. “Our caregivers are focused on providing the best care for our patients, and we know that hunger is an issue in our community. The Foodbank addresses hunger year-round, and your support of Harvest for Hunger is critical to putting food on the tables of families in need.”
“Harvest for Hunger and the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank continue to positively impact the communities where we live and work,” said Roland. “Day Ketterer is honored to partner with the Foodbank for the 2019 Harvest for Hunger Campaign, and I am privileged to serve with Dr. Harte as co-chair in order to bring awareness and support to this very important and significant community endeavor.”
At the breakfast, Campaign updates will be shared, along with a motivational address from David Flowers, brother to Foodbank President and CEO, Dan Flowers. David is a licensed professional counselor, college professor, author and former pastor and is well-known for his inspirational messages as a public speaker.
The Harvest for Hunger Campaign unites four food banks in Northeast Ohio and focuses on fighting hunger across 21 counties in the region.
