The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is seeking the community’s support to help reach its 4.2 million meal goal for its annual Harvest for Hunger Campaign.

Beginning Wednesday, financial donations to the Foodbank can be matched, up to $15,000, making donations go twice as far! At the Foodbank, $1 can help provide enough food for three meals, but during the Harvest for Hunger Match Challenge, May 29-30, donations can make twice the impact for families experiencing hunger.

The match challenge is made possible because of the generous support from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and an anonymous friend of the Foodbank.

“The Harvest for Hunger Campaign is a vital resource for your Foodbank, allowing us to serve thousands of our neighbors experiencing hunger. The campaign is undoubtedly being impacted by inflation. As the Foodbank and our network of hunger-relief partners continue to serve people in record numbers, we’re asking for the community’s support – we can’t do this work without everyone’s help,” said Dan Flowers, Foodbank president and CEO.

The need for help with groceries remains elevated. The Foodbank and its network of hunger-relief partners has seen a 30% increase in the number of visits from people seeking help in the first quarter compared to the previous year. For the first time in Foodbank history, 3+ million pounds of food have been distributed from its warehouse for four consecutive months.

“As inflated costs for everyday necessities continue to stretch families’ budgets, the Foodbank is stretching its resources too to be able to serve this community, and we need your help,” said Flowers.

Harvest for Hunger is the Foodbank’s largest fundraising initiative and helps support food distribution all year long. Support from the community is imperative to ensure families struggling with hunger have a place to turn during their time of need.

This year’s goal, $1.4 million and 100,000 pounds of food, will help the Foodbank provide the equivalent of 4.2 million meals to the local community. Donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and workplace giving campaigns all contribute to the Foodbank’s ability to lend a helping hand to neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
