The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank announced it has almost reached its 2019 Harvest for Hunger Campaign goal and needs the community’s support to reach the finish line by Sunday, May 5, 2019.
Beginning Monday, April 29, 2019, donations to the Foodbank will be doubled, up to $79,000, making donations go twice as far! At the Foodbank, $1 can help provide 4 meals, but this week only, April 29 – May 5, 2019, during its Harvest for Hunger Match Challenge, $1 can help provide 8 meals thanks to the generous support of Shearer’s Snacks and a few anonymous friends of the Foodbank.
“We are approaching our goal but need your help to finish strong for the families and neighbors struggling with hunger in our community,” said Dan Flowers, president and CEO of the Foodbank. “Surpassing our Harvest for Hunger goal is the only option, friends!”
Harvest for Hunger is the Foodbank’s largest fundraising initiative and helps support food distribution all year long. Support from the community is imperative to ensure families struggling with hunger have a place to turn during their time of need.
This year’s goal, $1.32 million and 100,000 pounds of food, will help the Foodbank provide more than 5.3 million meals to the local community. One hundred percent of all Harvest for Hunger donations go directly to providing free food for individuals and families in the Foodbank’s eight-county service region. Donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and workplace giving campaigns all contribute to the Foodbank’s ability to lend a helping hand to neighbors facing food insecurity.
“It’s amazing to see so many community members, local businesses and organizations working together to fight hunger,” said Flowers. “I’m so proud of this Campaign and your willingness to rally around and support your Foodbank. Thank you for all you do, and I look forward to meeting our Campaign goal together!”
